Airspace over Interlaken and Winterthur, 1971

Swiss Air Force intelligence ran a standing order, in three languages, for pilots to report flying saucers, and in February 1971 three Mirage III crews used it, one filing a hand-drawn sketch of a light that moved like a snake.

The record

An official file preserves that a report was made and examined. It does not, by itself, establish what was seen.

What is not settled

Luminous points only, at night, no radar, no photographs. The directive explicitly disclaimed determining composition or origin, so no official conclusion was reached. Originals reported missing from the archive; copies only.
