Brazil · 20 January 1996
Varginha, 1996
ReportedIn January 1996 three young women in Varginha said they had come upon a crouched brown figure with a ridged head and red eyes at the edge of a vacant lot, and within days the town was full of claims that the army had taken something away. It is the most persistent entity case in South America and the arguing about it has never stopped.

What the record resolves
The record carries a face, a head, eyes, skin, hands or proportions.
Brown exterior, cranial ridges, red eyes, at distance and briefly. The military and police pages are not attached.
On that description this archive reads the form as Other morphology. That is a reading of recorded words, not the record classifying itself.
The record
An official file preserves that a report was made and examined. It does not, by itself, establish what was seen.

What is not settled
Almost every dramatic element of Varginha is second-hand, and the strongest first-hand account is of a figure seen briefly at a distance in a state of considerable fear. Brazil's national archive holds military UFO material and is open to researchers; the specific inquiry pages that would settle this have not been placed in the record here. Until they are, this is a well-known story rather than a documented one.
