About eighty college students and their civil-defence director watched lights over a swamp on two nights, the Air Force announced the cause was swamp gas, and its own consultant conceded in the same file that he could not prove it in a court of law.

What is not settled

Marsh-gas ignition genuinely does produce low coloured lights. Witnesses were at night, at distance, and descriptions vary widely between observers.
