Remote-viewing target: Mars, 1984

Scientific context

On 22 May 1984 a subject in a government-sponsored remote-viewing programme was handed a sealed envelope and asked to describe what was inside. The transcript, released by the CIA and readable in its reading room today, has him describing very tall, very thin figures in light garments, a failing environment, and a population trying to leave.

What the record resolves

A body

The record carries a face, a head, eyes, skin, hands or proportions.

Very tall, very thin, large-headed, in light garments. It is a released transcript of an experiment, not an observation.

On that description this archive reads the form as Humanlike. That is a reading of recorded words, not the record classifying itself.

The record

An official file preserves that a report was made and examined. It does not, by itself, establish what was seen.

The document is attached to this entry.

What is not settled

This is a released government document about an experiment in a discredited method, and it is filed here as exactly that. Nothing in it is an observation of anything. It earns a place because a real agency really did run this session and really did keep the paper, and because the figures described in it have since been quoted for decades as though they were seen.
